Why Aren't My Campaign Steps Sending? A Troubleshooting Checklist

Last updated: October 23, 2026

A campaign can be active while a specific prospect is paused, waiting, or not eligible for the next step. Start with the prospect's current campaign status and reason, then check the matching item below.

“My campaign says Steps Only, and no new prospects are coming in”

Steps Only means the campaign can continue working through prospects already added, but its prospect search is not adding new ones. Hover over the Steps Only label beside the campaign name to see why the search is inactive. If the search has finished or is paused, resume or add a search, or import new prospects.

If you need to move prospects from another campaign, see the Add Prospects from Existing Campaigns guide; its setting only applies when the new campaign is created. See what Steps Only means.

“My prospects are Pending or Paused, even though the campaign is active”

A campaign's status does not mean every prospect is ready to send. Open the campaign's Prospects view, then click Pending or hover over the prospect's status in the Campaign column to read the reason. Pending means a step is blocked; Waiting means Buzz is waiting for an automated action, such as a connection acceptance.

For paused prospects, filter by campaign, select the prospects, then choose Action → Resume campaign. Do not resume a prospect until you understand its pending reason. For example, Verify prospect's emails before sending can hold prospects whose email fails a check.

Review the setting under Workspace Settings → Basic Information and the email verification guide before changing it. The guide explains the deliverability tradeoff.

“The next step is waiting for my approval”

When manual approval is enabled for a text step, Buzz waits for you to review it. In Prospects, open the filter icon, choose Approval Status, and find the pending approvals. Select Approve to let the step proceed. You can also choose Skip or Hold. See Manual Approval.

“My email step is waiting for the LinkedIn request to be accepted”

In a multichannel campaign, a message step may need an accepted connection first. If Wait for Connection Request to Be Accepted is on in the Send Connection Request step, later steps wait until the prospect accepts. If an If Connected condition follows the request immediately, turn off that wait setting or add a delay before the condition so Buzz has time to register the connection.

A delay is the earliest time the condition can run, not a guaranteed send time. Read the connection-acceptance setting guide.

“I switched to Email Only, but my existing prospects still act like social prospects”

Changing Outreach Type does not change profiles already in the campaign. Existing profiles keep their original type; the new type applies to prospects added afterward. Open the campaign's Settings → Outreach Type to confirm the selection. To apply the new type to all prospects, create a new campaign with the desired type or remove and re-add the existing profiles. See Multichannel vs. Email Only.

“My connection requests are not going out, even though prospects are ready”

Check the campaign's Connection Request Limit and make sure Requests per day is not set to zero. Then check Settings → Account Limits → Connection requests. If either limit is zero or too low, update it within your intended outreach limit. Account limits apply across campaigns on the same social account. If both settings allow requests but none are sending, check for a platform restriction and follow the low connection request guide.

“My email step has not sent anything”

Confirm the sequence contains a Send Email step, not only a social Send Message step. Then open Mailboxes, select the sending mailbox, and check its Email Sending Range. A range set to zero prevents that mailbox from sending. Campaigns using the same mailbox share its daily sending capacity, so other campaigns may use part of that allowance.

For details, see Email Sending Ranges & Provider Limits.
