How does "Add Prospects from Existing Campaigns" work?
Last updated: September 25, 2026
The Add Prospects from Existing Campaigns setting controls how prospects are shared across campaigns when a search is run. Understanding the underlying rule can help you avoid unexpected results when managing prospects across multiple campaigns.
How the setting works
When a prospect already exists in one campaign and a search is run on another campaign, the system determines which campaign "owns" that prospect based on a single rule:
The most recently created campaign always takes ownership of a prospect. This applies regardless of which campaign has the Add Prospects from Existing Campaigns toggle enabled.
For example, if you have:
Campaign A – created June 24 (toggle ON)
Campaign B – created July 13
Let’s say your goal is for prospects from Campaign B to move into Campaign A by enabling the toggle in Campaign A.
Even though Campaign A has the setting enabled, prospects will remain in Campaign B because it was created more recently. The toggle on the older campaign does not override the creation-date rule.
Why is it designed this way?
This behavior is intentional and is designed to prevent prospects from bouncing back and forth between campaigns when two campaigns share overlapping lists and one of them reruns a search. The creation date acts as a stable tie-breaker.
How to move prospects into a specific campaign
If you want prospects to be moved into a particular campaign, that campaign needs to be the most recently created one. To achieve this:
Duplicate the campaign you want prospects moved into, or create a new campaign.
Because the duplicated/new campaign will have a later creation date, it will take ownership of prospects on the next search run.
The current toggle label does not make this behavior obvious. The creation-date rule is the source of truth — not which campaign has the toggle enabled. Keep this in mind when setting up campaigns that share prospect lists, and use the workaround above when you need to direct prospects into a specific campaign.
