How to Connect Using Webhooks

How to Connect Webhooks Via Zapier

Now that we have the basis of Zapier & Webhooks understood, let's look at how to use them.

Here is a step by step guide on connecting with just Webhooks:

  1. Login to Zapier and click "+ Create Zap" 
  2. Choose your Trigger: Search for "Webhooks by Zapier"
  3. Click "Webhooks by Zapier" to be brought to this page
  4. Click "Event" to select what you would like to trigger the Zap. In this case, we will choose "Catch Hook." Click Continue
  5. Click Continue again and do not enter anything into "Child Key" field
  6. Click "Copy" on the webhook URL
  7. Go back to the Integrations tab on the platform and search for Webhook. Click "Manage"
  8. Click "Create New Webhook"
  9. Paste the copied link from Zapier into the "Callback URL" field
  10. Check off one choice of trigger that will prompt the Webhook to occur. 
    *Note that you can add more than one but we advise against this as they all go to the same place and do not differentiate - you can create more than one Webhook separately if you want to utilize all options*
  11. Click "Test" on the platform
  12. Then click "Test Trigger" on Zapier
    1. This is Zapier/Webhook going out to search for the "hook" on the web that was sent out by the platform to match up. 
  13. You should receive a notification that looks something like this: 
  14. Click Submit on the platform to save the hook.
  15. Now that the connection is found, we must tell the information where to go. Click "Continue" on Zapier to build out your "Actions"
  16. Type in the app you are looking to connect to - In this case we will use Google Sheets. Click Google Sheets. 
  17. Now we must choose the "Event" we would like to occur once the label is added (or any other trigger). There are many options here - in this case we chose "Create Spreadsheet Row"
  18. You will now be prompted to sign into the selected application with your credentials for that app. Then click "Continue"

  19. For the Action Steps, follow the prompts based on your selected application to designate which the information should go in the account and where. If there are additional options that are not needed, you may leave them blank. Once you're finished, click "Continue."
  20. Click "Test Action"
  21. Check the space you would like the test to appear to ensure it went to the correct area
  22. If successful, click Publish Zap!
